School Time!

The middle school operates on a four class period day.  Each period is 90 minutes long and classes seem to range from 15-20 kids in the 8th grade.

Today in social studies, Ms. Fitzgerald related the Anne Frank story to the students here in Barrow.  She was able to develop neat connections between the students personal experiences here in Barrow and Anne's experiences in the story.  While the Atlantic ocean seems a large divide between the US and Russia for most of us in the "lower 48," the proximity of these folks to Russia makes them almost neighbors.  I wonder how the proximity might influence the students understanding of the relationships between our countries.

In science, Ms. Anderson is moving students through stations to explore waves!  They are engaging themselves in science play...and building common experiences form which they will soon identify some common concepts.  Our teachers are doing a nice job of connecting to the students here.

Challenges abound, as in all schools, but progress is taking place!  What a unique opportunity for the student teachers to take part in this experience!  And now...its almost lunch time!

  2. Oops - brain dead. I meant we got as far as Circle City - at that time the furthest north you could drive.
